Barcelona Ars Nova is a vocal ensemble led by Mireia Barrera and formed by solo singers who regularly collaborate with the most prestigious ensembles throughout Europe, such as Collegium Vocale Gent, Huelgas Ensemble, Capella Reial de Catalunya i Hesperion XXI, Graindelavoix, Pygmalion, Ensemble Organum, Les Arts Florissants, La Colombina or Al Ayre Español, among others.
Barcelona Ars Nova was born in October 2012 within the project of the Polyphonic Masses in Barcelona, an initiative of a group of friends to organize in Barcelona a season of auditions of liturgical music performed in churches and in the framework of the ceremonies for which they were created. To guarantee the highest quality of the performances, the project promoted the creation of its vocal ensemble.
In the summer of 2016, Barcelona Ars Nova performed for the first time in concert, in a tour in the most outstanding Romanesque monasteries of Catalonia. More recently it has participated in the Festival Internacional d’Orgue de Montserrat, with a programme of Bach Cantatas. It has also performed Händel’s Messiah with the Finnish Baroque Orchestra conducted by Mireia Barrera at the Palau de la Música Catalana and the Auditorio Nacional de Música, as part of the ibercàmera and La Filarmónica seasons respectively; with the Real Filharmonía de Galicia and Robert Howarth, with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León and Richard Egarr, and with the Sinfónica de Navarra and Carlos Mena. Under the baton of Carlos Mena, they have also sung Mozart’s Requiem with the Orquestra Barroca Catalana at the Palacio de Festivales de Santander. They have also performed at the Auditori de Girona and at the Fundación Juan March.
