The baritone will perform “Il Conte d’Almaviva” in Emilio Sagi’s production under the baton of Lucas Macías on January 25, 28, and 30, and February 1st.

From José Antonio López’s 2024-2025 operatic season, which began at the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck performing Dido, Königin von Carthago by Graupner, highlights include Ariadne auf Naxos at Teatro de la Maestranza (Rechi/García Calvo), singing the role of the Musiklehrer, which he previously performed at the Gran Teatre del Liceu; Achilla in Handel’s Giulio Cesare alongside William Christie in Calixto Bieito’s production at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, a role he debuted at the Halle Händel-Festspiele in 2021 (he will return to Halle in 2026 with Ariodante); and his debut as Amfortas in a concert version of the third act of Parsifal with Nikolai Schukoff and Albert Dohmen, conducted by Josep Pons at the Monastery of Montserrat as part of the Millennium celebrations of the monastery’s founding. He will also sing Germont in La Traviata at the Gran Teatro de Córdoba (F. López/S. Vázquez).
In the concert arena, his season highlights include the closing concerts of the Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España, where he will perform Faust, Pater Seraphicus, and Dr. Marianus in Schumann’s Szenen aus Goethes Faust under the baton of David Afkham. With the ONE this season, he also sang Messiah under the direction of Paul Agnew. Other symphonic engagements include the 25th-anniversary concerts of La Cetra Barockorchester in Basel, conducted by Andrea Marcon; Fauré’s Requiem with the Franz Schubert Filharmonia and Laurence Equilbey; Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid and Juanjo Mena, as well as with the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla and Guillermo García Calvo; Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada and Víctor Pablo Pérez; and works by Ravel and Lieberson with the Simfònica de Balears and Pablo Mielgo.
Additionally, he will present several Liederabende of Schubert’s Winterreise alongside Rubén Fernández Aguirre, notably at the Auditorio de Tenerife on March 18.
Next season, José Antonio López will make his debut at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris and return to the programs of Teatro Real, Teatro de la Zarzuela, Les Arts, and Theater an der Wien, among others.
